Hi I'm Steve. I have enjoyed owning V8 Disco's for the last 5 years. My latest is a one off Hummer look alike. I bought t from the builder about a year ago and it had already featured in 4x4 magazine and kit car magazine. It is a real head turner and I still get a buzz out of driving it. I have just fitted a new distributor but it appears to have stopped starting on petrol very easily. However I can start it without a problem when over riding the gas. Must have missed something but it would be great if someone can point me in the right direction! Many thanks Steve

Hi, new member here. Please find attachment of distributor for my v8 discovery. Had a new distributor fitted but since then it has failed to start easily on petrol but seems to start on the gas over ride. Any pointers welcome. Many thanks. Steve

Pics or I'm not playing
Hi Blue Beasty, new member Steve here and may need a little help. I posted a picture of my vehicle and just recently the distributor. Hopefully you can see my previous posts etc but I think I may be not be sending my posts to the right places. Basically the vehicle is running really well since fitting a new distributor but starting on petrol is not happening but gas override starts ok. Any help on posting or my predicament would be welcome. Many thanks Steve

Gas needs a lot more advance on the timing, something like 12-18 degrees btdc whereas petrol likes around 6 plus or minus a degree or 2. What's the timing set at? Is your tdc mark on the crank pulley accurate? Check it by pulling out plug 1 and making sure when you are at tdc on the compression stroke the mark is at the indicator. Then time it to around 6 degrees btdc with the vacuum hose off the dizzy. After that it should start on petrol fine and then you can get the gas and petrol timing somewhere in the middle as a compromise.

Hi and so sorry for a lack of response, just checked back in after an absence due to biking for a while. Your response is perfect, I thought it must be to do with the distributor so will get it checked as per your advice. Really do appreciate your expertise on this. Very best regards. Steve
