trying to change oil seals on front hub of my series 3.the seal seems to be pressed between metal on both sides.can anyone tell me if you replace whole thing or does the rubber get replaced in between?i bought new seals but they are just rubber items.reckon ive got the wrong ones?

Hi, welcome to Landyzone :)

I suspect you have the metal / leather type seals. I believe you can replace with the rubber ones and they are perfectly fine - possibly less likely to leak than the leather?

What model do you have and year?

Might be a good idea to nip a quick post in the 'introduction' section before some one flames you ;)

Welcome. Have you invested in a seal puller? A simple bit of kit that will get a lot of use on any Land Rover. Draper do one at around £8/£10
The rubber seals are fine, just remember to lightly oil the seal lips on assembly do not use grease.

sorry lads, ive no idea of the etiquette?? of these forums,no idea what being flamed is either haha.i have a 1974 2.25 petrol landy and am doing the brakes, but noticed the shoes were manky,so im thinking the hub seals are shot.the rubber ones ive got are too small to press into the hub.the original metal ones are a tight fit obviously.
