Hi,
I have just bought a 55 plate XEi as a 2nd car and the only fault I have found so far is the HRW does not work.

The light comes on with the switch, rear door is shut and the window is fully up. I'm going to check fuse first, then relay (is it behind fuse box ?) and then take the trim off the door and check the contacts. Is that the right approach or is there anything else I should look for ?

Simple really.

The tag can come off the window and or the wiring could be unplugged the window element could be damaged, the wiring from body into the door could be damaged, the control unit could be defective, a sensor could have failed, could be a fuse could be a relay.

But as you are asking the question in the way you are I would guess you have some idea of things...... So get on with it!

Checked the contacts on the glass and they are good and checked the wiring to the point it goes into the car body. Fuse is good and the switch appears to be ok.

Just stuck on which relay to check and I'm new to Freelanders so how do I check the control unit ?

the relay is No 2 interior fuse box

is there power across the terminals

any scratches in the element on the window - good luck

Brack - do you mean the heated rear window terminals ? I'm assuming I need to check those from the inside with the rear door shut and switch on?
It's a 5 door.

thanks guys

If theres power at the wires then take the glass out and inspect for damaged element - theres a big expanse of it from the soldered contacts up to the start of the grid - mine was all patchy and so i bought a better window.

Update : Checked voltage and I'm getting 14v at the screen terminal. I then checked each filament and I have 4 that appear to have a break in them (voltage above and nothing below). They are not really breaks but look worn so I'm guessing they rub as the window goes up and down. I'll try some of the paint on solder repair but if that fails I'll replace the glass unit
Thanks for the advice.
