Hi All
I Pressed The Midle Button In The Steering Wheel , And The Radio Sound Went To Mute Mode ... I Pressed The Same Button Again , But The Situation Persists ... If Any One Can Help Me : How To Take Off The Mute Mode I will be thankful ..

Regards
Charbel .

sorry .. but i'm in my car trying to do somthing ... I'M USING MY LAPTOP ..
BUT EVEN IN THE USER MANUEL , THERE'S NOTHING ABOUT THIS .
NOTE : I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A MOBILE PHONE IN MY P38 AND IT HAD BEEN TAKEN OFF ..
AND THE WIRES ARE CUTTING ... COULD THIS AFFECT THE RADIO
( MUTE MODE ) COZ WHEN THE PHONE'S RINGING THE MUTE MODE GOES AUTOMATICALY ON .

The film switches on the steering wheel can play up,the most common fault is the "radio mute" issue. The procedure to change the switches is simple and is described in the Rave Cd info, disconnect the battery and get on with it

Chabrolly,

I had this problem with my P38.

The radio does not have a manual "MUTE" function. It only operates when it gets a signal from the phone kit when a call is in progress.

However, if the steering wheel button contacts become dirty, they send a dodgy signal to the radio, which puts it into "MUTE" mode.

You just have to keep pressing the buttons to clear the fault.

As The Mad Hat Man says, you can replace them, but I just shouted at them, gave them a damned good blow out and started using them regularly and the problem went away.

Good luck!

As i sed yesterday - look here or if yu wanna find out where your mute wire is - check here

thank you very much ..
I SOLVED THE PROBLEM BY TAKING OFF THE RADIO OF ITS PLACE .. THEN I UNPLUG THE HIGH BLACK WIRE ( IT LOOKS LIKE RF ) THEN I PLUGGED IT AGAIN .. SO THE RADIO RETURN TO ZERO SITUATION , AND THE LCD DISPLAYS " CODE IN " , AND AS I HAVE THE CODE , I ENTERED IT , AND THE " MUTE " WORD DISAPPEARED ...
AND EVERYTHING RETURN TO NORMAL POSITION ..
I SWEAR , I WILL NEVER PRESS THOSE BUTTONS AGAIN .

REGARDS TO YOU ALL .
NOTE : IF THERE'S ANY DANGER ABOUT WHAT I DID , PLEASE NOTIFY ME .

CHARBEL .

As the other writers advise, the reason for the "Mute" signal is 99.99% down to the steering wheel switches. A sure fix to recover the volume but ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE RADIO CODE is to pull the fuse on the BECM fuse panel under the drivers seat and then reinsert it. Enter the code into the radio and it will be o.k.
The Diversity unit fitted to P38's does not have a phone Mute function, it has to be hard wired into one of the spare pins on the radio multi plugs from the handsfree kit.
I have had the same problem through pressing the switches on the wheel especially the Mode button, usually the volume switches will not give the fault although the contacts tend to get dirty.

my p38 is a left side driver and there's nothing under the seat ... the becm in my car is under the passenger seat ... and i heard that it's not a good idea to pull off any fuse if there's not a main problem with the fuse box .
any idea how to clean the steering wheel switches , without taking off the wheel cover ??
regards

O.k.-so it's a L.H. drive. The fuses are under the passenger seat.
Trust me, you will not cause any problems removing the radio fuse and re-inserting it. I have done it many times without problems and the procedure is also given on Andy Cunninghams website.
Problems sometimes arise when the battery is disconnected with other electronics, but not something as uncomplicated as the fuse for the radio circuit.
If you subscribe to these forums, you have the wealth of experience that others have gained and are willing to share.
If you don't trust the information given, then take it to your Main Dealer and let him charge you a fortune for pulling the fuse and at least an hours labour. Usual excuse is "Leave it with us for a few hours to sort out" and then rip you off for 2 minutes work.
