P38A How to replace rear discs and pads?

I think you any of you could be right. I don’t know how thick the pad was that fell out. The other rear pads were good but maybe the one that fell out had worn very thin.
The calliper then wore directly against the disc, so even after a very short distance, but with heavy braking down a steep lane, the calliper and disc were completely knackered as you’d expect.
Either way, thanks to the helpful comments on here I replaced the rear discs, replaced the sliders on one calliper and replaced the other one.
Everything is all good now. Well, at least the brakes work well now.
Water pump is a different story - but that’s another thread!

If the slide pins were seized, then quite likely one pad would have worn down to nothing.
