You rotate it about 30 degrees. The metal is just a spring

Braking the screen would be my biggest worries

Ooh, I had that happen to mine and a little liquide had seeped out onto the center dash... It's like bloody acid

Just look for the same version on eBay. If you're replacing the electrochromic with a standard mirror, get one of those.
Up to 1998 had 3-wire, but 1999 onward have 5-wire connections.

i have opened the case. it is glued at the bottom.
unfortunately my plan didn't work out. but now i know where the brown spots come from. it is a glued double mirror and on one side it is no longer tight and therefore moisture could get in. Anyway, I'm still satisfied.
