OK, I can now report back on this method of reconning a VCU.
I had Bertie at an off road course yesterday going up and down some seriously steep hills in very wet and slippery conditions and the VCU worked flawlessly transferring drive to the rear wheels. At no time did I feel the car was only 2WD or that the rear wheels were not being driven. This combined with a OWUT time of approx 20 seconds and we can now say this method is a success.
