Hi all, I'm posting another question about security.

As I have mentioned previously I am looking at buying a disklok and potentially welding extra steel onto the rear of it to cause even more grief for a potential thief!

However I am also trying to understand the mind of the land rover thief even more.

I was wondering if anyone from bad experiences could shed some light on the matter.

Are most 2004 defender td5 station wagons stolen by hot wiring or are they loaded on a truck?

Can anyone confirm whether I have an immobiliser which could prevent hot wiring?

I know it's not something people may want to discuss openly but the way I see it that if your a professional thief you would already know how to nick one anyway.

So perhaps private messaging me instead if you wanted.

Thanks

Basically try to make yours harder to steal than any others in your area, but if they want it that bad I'm sure they'll have it, I've heard stories of thieves nicking them out of Tescos car park with a tow truck

Yep, you can never have too much security!

As said, the more the better and think about how and where you park it

Even putting the wheels on full lock can help

I've just got a defender and worry about it getting nicked hearing all the stories! Are they really that easy to steal standard? Mine has no security apart from the door locks that you could pick open with a wham bar!! I normally make sure it's tight to the garage and a car right In front of it. Where is the best place to get a pedal lock from? Thanks

Yeah the disklok and full lock is also my idea of security.

If you want to make it even securer you can weld a brace of steel across the rear of the disklok to prevent it from being peeled away from the steering wheel with a pry bar.

Does anyone know about td5 immobiliser? does it have one and does it work?

Should do unless it's been bypassed which is a common fix for faults but DO NOT RELY ON IT!.....seriously, it's about as secure as your door locks unfortunately

My thoughts exactly, need to bolt the doors somehow to stop them getting in, thinking along these lines for mine together with battery cut off, battery box lock and fuel cut off:)

Bolting your doors wont help much, best advice is dont post on an open forum, just do lots of research, pick the best ideas and make sure you use them.

Bolting doors wouldn't stop it they would just break windows. Or if you've got the rear windows you could easily break the plastic retaining clip with a good pair of window suckers.

And as for posting on here I am just trying to get people to highlight particular areas of weakness which we as land rover owners can then protect in our own unique way that a thief would not expect.

An expert thief is gonna know how to nick one anyway end of and the fact is more and more are going missing so unless we all come together and share the knowledge of how there being bloody nicked there's no chance of reducing it

Bolting the doors will deter the majority of thieves, I'm not worried who knows that I have battery cut off and fuel cut off and bolted doors in fact I might write it on the windows so would be thieves know in advance that mine is not an easy target, best they know that BEFORE they smash their way in and rip the steering lock off !!

Surely they just then bring the recovery truck to save themselves any hassle!
