How tall are you driving a defender?

6’2” and don’t have any issues on standard seats, though after an hour I do need to stretch my legs!

Well, I find faults in the sense of noticing that brake pads are wearing down or bushes are perishing, but I find it difficult to fully identify with this endless bardic lament about the driving position, steering wheel size, heavy clutch, can't go on long journeys, can't go over 60, too noisy and so on. These common shibboleths are either untrue or not really a problem.

One thing I've noticed also is how tall everyone is on Landyzone. 'Oh, I'm 6'6"', 'I'm 6'3"' and so on. Compared to the general population we're enormous. Worldwide, only about 12% of men are 6' and over, rising to around 14-15% in the countries of western Europe and North America. So we must be a pretty rareified bunch.

I’m 6’01 and don’t have an issue driving my 90. It’s probably because I’ve driven landies for 30 years and am used to the driving position. Of more concern is the habit of talking to it when I go to start it (start you b*stard is how the conversation starts!)

I’ve driven lots of normal cars over the years, some I’ve owned but most through work and I don’t find these any more comfortable. Worst of all are small vans, with driving positions worse than anything else.

You can improve your space in a defender with seat risers and centre bulkhead removal bars but worth also looking at power assisted clutches and spring kits to help with your knees and the effort needed to depress the clutch, particularly if your legs are quite bent when driving.

This fella managed :D

I’m 6’3” couldn’t drive a standard 90 it was uncomfortable, tried a 90 with extended seat rails and bulk head removed was a lot better.

but my old 110 twin cab was even better still and found the seat went significantly further back.

Still doesn’t help solve the lack of arm and shoulder room pressed against the door.

then people always ask why you driving with your window down and it’s raining.

I was 5' 10" but recent measurement shows I am now 5' 9" and a 1/4. Reached the shrinking stage I recon.:D Thought it was getting harder to get in the Landy.;)
Give it time.:( I used to be 5'!0 1/2 , now 5'9" it is the stuff between your vertebrae that shrinks.:(:(:(
Your inability to get into your Landy is that your legs ain't as fit as they used to be!!

I never understood why Land Rover when they introduced the solid door card made it with a locking button at the latch end,:eek: a press in button at the door release [ like ford cars ] would have left more space for elbows.
