I have sold my Disco and after a gap over summer Im after a 90. The problem is Im shopping at the bottom of the market (2500 ish) and although I want a Tdi many of the cars I would be interested and or can afford are normally aspirated diesel or turbo diesel. Ive owned both and found the plain diesel slow and know the reputation of the turbo diesels issues from experience. I note tdi s engines are about 500 quid. My thoughts are to stick it out and wait for the right original tdi but how much work/cost is involved in putting a tdi into either of the above? Id have to pay a garage as Im a bit hamfisted myself.

tdi conversion is easy for 200tdi into 2.5td 90. a days work for a home mechanic if you have all the bits and a driveway.

I am just doing a tdi conversion on a N/A 90...I'm guessing with the engine included I'll be looking at circa £1000 with all those bits and pieces you always forget and I'll be using a Steve Parker exhaust front exhaust pipe adapter...the more you can get with the engine ie rads pipes etc the better if you've had a disco you'll be aware of what you'll need timers for glow plugs etc..if you prepare it's quite possible to swap engines in one weekend to reduce hire on the crane to a minimum.

Anyway that's my take on it, fiendishly difficult to be spot on regarding costs so it's a rough estimate, plenty of information on here and elsewhere on the InterWeb

I put a 200tdi in a 2.5 petrol 90. I had never changed more than a battery before and boy was it a learning curve.

It's technically still unfinished as I need to get the welding done :/

Simple stuff mostly though, lots of nuts and bolts.

Cheers for that guys. So my mate who has a garage and is a landy man would hopefully manage it in a day. As I say Im hoping to buy a tdi from the start but as you know with landrovers something catches your eye etc etc!
