hi everyone, this is my first post, and was wondering how much power the hippo’s drivetrain can take, as i would like to know how far to tune one up. Thanks for any help/advice
The V6 FL1 is faster than the P38.Torque is a destroyer the V6 is rather weak with only 240nm.
The 1.8k with Turbo roughly 270nm.
Guess you could crank the power and torque up and see when she goes bang!!
That'll give you a pretty good clue as to where the cut off point is
The V6 FL1 is faster than the P38.
I've raced a 4.6 and it couldn't keep up. 2L bigger engine over the FL1. Where's all the power lost?4.6 0-60 is 9-3 you said freelander 1 was 10 seconds..
However that is irrelevant
The P38 is stronger!
Last time i checked the lander couldn't pull a 3.5 tonne trailer

May I ask have yer towed 3 ton this week? How about int last 30 days? Or even this year? Have yer ever towed 3ton? Of course yer int. When yer old enough ter drive it one day...
Power int list... 2.5L v 4.6L and 0 to 60mph is within 1 second of each other? Again, where is all the additional power from an engine nearly twice the capacity lost?Sure we'll believe you
I have moved several horse trailers around in the fields by my house, helping out the local farmer., and yes it was fully loaded.
Power isn't lost 214hp and over 420nm on the Thor 4.6.
The low revving V8 is all about torque!Power int list... 2.5L v 4.6L and 0 to 60mph is within 1 second of each other? Again, where is all the additional power from an engine nearly twice the capacity lost?
I'm board of yer now. Yer avoiding the question. Where is the power lost when comparing V6 2.5 to V8 4.6? Both petrol. No eggscuses. Yer P38 is just a big Freelander. The benefit of hair suspension is nowt. Its just more ont list to fail. And they fail quite often. One day when yer grow up yer'll realise. The low revving V8 is all about torque!
Again strength is lost in the lander, no low range no strength no torque!!
It lacks common land rover necessities.

I think yer need to check yer facts and yer VCUYou're still skirting around why the lander is so weak!!
Anyway the V8 is from the 60s with Bosch injection on top..
But the benefits
1 more torque
2 the same fuel economy as the freelander even though the P38 weighs the same as a small moon
3 nicer noise.
4 easier to service
5 more HP
etc etc
And we don't get VCU and IRD issues because we have a proper drivetrain!
I think yer need to check yer facts and yer VCU
I int avoiding anything.
You and yer mum can follow me round lz fer as long as yer like. Making daft comments and poking fun at Freelander's int really going to help yer make others think yer heap is better than it is. Yes we have the odd transmission problem but it's not as if yer int got a transfer box on yer own heap. Never go wrong eh? Yes that's what an ird is. But yer knew that...
Yer engines are weak. They dun't shift as fast as others from that era. It's called performance. Look it up. Balls to 1960's. They put electronics on it and modernised it. They had the opertunity to up the power output but knew it couldn't handle the power. Cornering etc was also a problem. Look ont you tube and yer'll see. If they applied the power it would snap. But yer knew that...
Towing capacity... How does a vehicle able to tow it's rated capacity become weak? Yours is rated higher. But how many owners actually use their vehicle to tow? I dun't because I dun't need to. I dun't av a tow bar because ah dun't need to tow. I dun't have anything to tow. I tow with me towing hook when recovering cars oft road. Including P38's. Pic's on ere and the web long before yer bought yer heap.
Yer joined this Fred to annoy. That is all. Bye.
They sold well. Won many awards. First lr vehicle to have a 3 year manufacturer's warranty. It also set the bar fer new lr's to follow it. Independent suspension. No need fer a separate chassis... But yer knew that...Stop trying to convince yer self the lander is good..
it ain't.
