Hi guys, looking to work out how much fuel an average Rover v8 uses, MPG isn't of much help as I may only be going slow but still using as much as I could doing 70mph.
Not sure if you can or can't work it out from mph.
I'm after a measurement of say:
Full beans @ full load = 10l per min, or something along those lines.

Cheers Mark

All the owners books give the standard Govt fuel figures for Urban, Extra-Urban and Combined cycles.

V8 Disco 2 Manual is 12.1mpg on the urban cycle, 22.2mpg on the Extra-Urban and 17.0mpg combined cycle.

V8 Disco 1 Manual is 11.9mpg on the urban cycle, 23.4mpg on the Extra-Urban and 17.3mpg combined cycle.

I know you didn't want mpg figures, but fuel consumption figures for the V8 are only published in that format, otherwise it would be litres per hp per hour.

What series of V8 are u interest in and in what vehicle??

When would u like these figures on "how much fuel an average Rover v8 uses", when it left the factory or a few thousand miles or "been around the houses" on the clock?

Perhaps u should contact Jaguar Land Rover to see if they use a formula relating to question. No doubt they will have a flow rate at a given RPM just like F1 teams do for a specific engine.

work out your injector flow rate then times it by the amount of seconds you want, you may need to work off the basis that you have the resistance and circuit value and for how long in order to define its flow rate but once you have that its simple enough

I may have the formula sheet somewhere as we do this for electronics

On a greenlane trip a few years back my V8 90 used sixty quids worth compared to 30 quids worth used by others in their 200/300tdi 90s
There was a lot of idle time and it's surprising what they use at idle compared to a doozil, the joys of twin SU carbs I guess, EFI would have been a lot better.

Just to clarify I'm not trying to work out what mpg I'm getting or anything, just how most amount of flow a rover v8 uses. mine's a 3.5.
Does MS use injector open times in their config? or is it worked out for you.

What kind of usage are you talking about Mark?

I would hazard a guess that general PnP uses around 10 litres an hour maybe? And cruising on motorway probably could use 15 litres an hour.

I can have a look at duty cycles and open times on MS if you like but i couldnt work out how many litres per hour that equates to.

Plus, i assume fuel pressure has a bearing on injector flow rate.

That would be awesome cheers! yea pressure will have an effect, but I'm trying to work out the max, so I will assume the pressure is max.

pumps, want to know what pump i can use for a swirl pot.. rather than guessing, I'de like to work out exactly what I need.
And it would be useful to know for future projects, not just mine.

I once did a V8 conversion on an MGB GT.

Started it, began tuning and it cut out. Ah... no fuel in the tank.
Full can (5 litres) of fuel in the tank... working on it for 20 minutes and it cut out again. What have I done wrong now? Ah... out of fuel again.

So on that basis, I'm going with 3 gallons an hour at idle!

just for comparison I work with diesel engines around 16l v12 and 1000+ bhp and they use between 120-200 lph under load so some of these figures must be well out
