Thanks for all the replies guys...
What the problem is.......I brought a 96 (N) 300tdi (XS model) Discovery from Northampton in October, and it started to lose water couldnot figure out where it was going, no obvious leak....
So stripped out the head and did head gasket over Christmas, still losing water, So stripped out water pump, no problem with that so refitted with new gasket, flush rad all that then discovered that there is a core plug behind the flywhell and the water is coming out of bellhousing (quite a lot of it).
So first i thought, get a 300tdi and change the lump, then i thought, if i'm lifting the lump anyway, i'll repair it and re-fit it, then get a 300tdi, rebuild it from bottom up and swop it over later, and then flog this 200tdi that is currentley in the car.

I just wish the guy I brought it off of was honest enough to say he had changed the lump.

As for buying a crane, no problem as long as i know which one to buy, thinking machine mart maybe, which size?

while we is on this topic, bread van delivery blokes keep a pile of 800mm square skates that they use to stack a zillion loafs of bread on so they can easily wheel them into stores

these skates are massively over engineered and are ideal for plonking and strapping engines and GBs on so they can be moved around with ease

did i read this right - at the end of this process will you have a dead engine, or one in a zillion parts ?

most of the long reach cranes would do

Disclaimer.......mugging Breadmen is not big and its not clever.:D:D:D

Sean - What do you mean "dead engine" ? - I will have a spare 200tdi after i buy, strip, Rebuild and fit a 300tdi, because this car has to have a 300tdi back in it......anything else is just wrong, innit ?

Fanatic - thanks for the crane info, i was gonna ask....does it have enough height to clear slam panel with lump on the end ?
BTW, I too am originally from somerset, so you have to be nice !!!

No doubt someone will take the ****, but if you have a garage 3ton jack and axle stands then it is possible to do all work underneath.
Then jack up and remove axle stands and lower.
You may think £25 quid load leveler is a waste-but it makes it easy angle wise. Last lump I took out was a shogun 2.5 diesel-****ed out and **** to put in.

The benefit of the crane I chose is it's wheel size-small wheels are a nightmare
