I have just purchased a 50l 3hp compressor with gravity spray gun and grit blaster. Also a Shultz gun for application of dinitrol and waxoyl. Is this going to be really messy or could I put a dust sheet down, drive over it and tape down the sides to stop spray escaping onto other cars. Will that be ok?

tends to create a mist that covers everything if you do it in doors, outside make sure the others are upwind

wont be any good as a grit blaster - not powerful enough or sufficient volume.

sand should only really be used as a wet blasting medium due to concerns over the dust causing silicosis, which is never good.
I blast using copper slag with an air fed mask, and the dust gets everywhere. 3Hp should be producing around 12-14 CFM ( FAD), and will do some good blasting work, but you will have to be very patient - it will be very low air and abrasive flow rates. The pro blasters will be up at about 100 CFM. ( some a lot more ).
If you are blasing outside, try and contain your spillage with plastic sheet - it will go everywhere. I reckon I loose about 30 - 50% blasting outside. And its a dirty filthy job too

I remember waxoyling my first car around 1980 iirc and just wore jeans and tee shirt. The clothes were ruined, no issue really but my hair wasn't right for weeks, had to keep washing it with fairy liquid, couldn't get a lather going for yonks!

I'll follow that advice, I think my hair should be ok. I lost it 5 years ago! I'll try and get it all done in 2 weeks or so from start to finish, looking at these remote air breathing apparatus too.

peeps do.... but sand is silicone based - and ingesting silicone dust leads to prospective silicosis.

Waxoyled my 90 last year. Put ramps on a tarp and weighted the edges down. I wore a tyvek suit with hood up and mask/gloves etc...got plastered in the stuff, tyvek suit ripped to shreds as crawling around on my back ruined my cloths underneath and looked like a negative panda for days afterwards. Loved every minute of it! Oh yeah, I had to wipe off all the overspray with white spirit...from the Landy body panels, the car, my boat, the house windows, the dog, the missus!

you can get black dinitrol in schutz containers and sealey do disposable schutz heads so no cleaning up just lob the empty dinitrol canister and head then start afresh

Yes, you can increase the amount of mess you make with a compressor by a whole order of magnitude. The fine mist of Waxoyl, Dinitrol, cellulose paint in a variety of hideous colours and sand blasting media can get everywhere. Inside respirators and disposable overalls, in your ears and up your nose, as well as on furnishing fabrics and on the neighbours' cars. Not to mention how effectively you can chuck the dirt around from grinding, wire brushing, sanding and needle scaling which you can do with the air tools themselves. If you merely had a brush and bucket you'd never achieve that kind of spread or penetration. With a compressor on the other hand you can achieve the kind of plume that would show up on Google Earth if they happened to be taking a picture at the time.

I can recommend these for comfort as you can wear them for hours and your glasses don't mist up. They seem to be very good value for money but I'll let the experts say if they are suitable for your use.

Drive up ramps just for a bit of room, front then the back. Just don't kink the application tube while under pressure.
