N I...interstingly enough, just found a bonnet mounted, carbon air scoop on the net....couple with a ducted cold air filter box etc, that really could be fun?

Crewey - K&N's suffer heatsoak more as they are made from cotton type material.
Ducts dont look as cool but if you get ram air from a duct/scoop pointed forward, the faster you go the faster the air inducted..
You could make one from a plant pot!

That's the main point of my scoop really, as i know the colder the air, the more oxygen in it. The way my intake is fitted, is from a U type silicone piping to bring the air filter right in the scoop. Basically, part of the air filter sits higher than the bonnet, and when the bonnet is closed, sits inside the scoop (but far back enough not to take in water when it's raining). But then again, i still think the filter right on the throttle body (K&N or ITG or Viper etc) is still less restrictive than the oem airbox. (I had a conical Viper (was just like the K&N but not as loud lol) filter on the throttle body before i even did my scoop, and noticed quite a difference with that alone.

Crewey, the box itself sits across the back (in much the same way as FL) but I'm guessing that the angles and lengths would be completely different, but I recon my local garage could adapt it to fit, but like I said it would need to be done properly, or it could end up looking like a big boy racer Saxo or similar!!

MGF doesn't have a mid section, just CAT-backbox.

You have a CAT flange on the backbox, which would need removed if going down the clamp route

Plus 2 rubber hanging points, only 1 on the FL, so another hook mount welded on is called for.

Oh the doors falling off was Shotgundrew reversing with the door open straight after washing the car.

A post took the door clean off its hinges !

Well you gotta hand it to Crewey, the scoop sits well on the FL bonnet, not too chav like.

I'd do it myself but I'm well past that phase. Haven't even washed the FL for around 6 months, not kidding

Much prefer the anti-bling, reminds me of a mini 1 I used to have,

1293cc, stage II road kit and cams, twin carbs and pancake filters (a bugger in cold weather, manual choke, usually had to put the OEM filter back on in winter)

it was seriously quick for the time (early 90's, I believe Crewey was in nappies around this time ;),
apart from minlite alloys, the 'MINI 1000cc' badge on the back fooled many.

Aye, i would have only been a young nipper and definitely still in my nappies lol. Would probably still be fast today? Beating these new toyota i-gos or whatever :D

...my elder brother had a 1071 mini cooper 's' back in the 70's...that was seriously fast for its time. and rather like being onboard a very, very fast go-kart. lots of fun.

Ok...so this may be a silly question, but what is the diameter of the 52mm throttle body. Need to sort out an aftermarket filter....dont suppose its 52mm by any chance?

52mm would be the inner diameter i'm guessing? Never actually measured it lol.

If so the outer diameter (to clamp the filter onto) would probably be about 55/56mm. Lots of aftermarket filters come with rubber spacers to accommodate for different throttle body diameters and are usually quite flexible.

Just seen this thread ....... take a look at Emerald MD3 these guys are real experts on the 1.8 lump ........... this is a very underated engine that is capable of well over 200ponies ....... but you need throttle bodies.......these can be made from old 40dcoe carbs....if you are handy in the workshop .... these guys can supply a little custom ecu
that is programable via windows fab. I would think 170 should be possible without losing much bottom end. K3 Engine Management System
