how many belts in a defender

i'm gettin confused,
jus how many belts are in a 300tdi engine?
whats the difference between a timing belt, auxilery belt and cambelt!

3 in total
Auxillary belt drives the fan, alternator PAS, AC etc.
Timing belt drives the fuel pump timing.
Cambelt operates the cam & consequently the valve openings

thats gd 2 no!so is it the auxilry that has th tensioners etc?or do they all hav their own set of tensioners and pulleys?

They'll all have there own tensioners. I would have thought. but if your only changing the aux belt ther other 2 won't be disturbed

cheers m8, and finally (sorry, such noob questions its embarrassin!). when ya talk of a serpentine belt, which one is that?its jus that i'v posted earlier bout squeakin belts/tensioners etc and realised that i hadnt asked which belt everyone was talkin bout!

jus one a google and its the auxilery right!

The serpentine belt is the aux belt. so called because it snakes round all the pully wheels

Surely the timing belt drives both the camshaft and the injector pump. So 2 belts, unless you have air con, which has it's own belt.

yep your right me brain was wandering Cambelt and timing belt are the same thing.

think the 300 runs a serp. belt. so you will have 1 timing/cam belt (which you cant see) and the serp belt running everything else, which you can see, and easily change.
