Never intended to even consider the hard top until the engine and body work was complete but after all this rain my plans have changed. Due to space limitations I need the back as storage for removed parts and my canvas tilt leaks.
What is a good price for a hardtop? How easy are they to track down?
As ever, any help gratefully grabbed at!! :)
Dave

I'm not sure on price but I'm pretty sure that theres always a few on ebay :) A few of the bigger shows/ autojumbles may have the hardtop panels too

The only one on ebay at the minute is going for 199 which is only a little less than what I paid for the Leaking Lady. I'll keep checking. Thanks.

Don't want to sound ungrateful but my weekend project doesn't push to 400 mile round trips and £80 of diesel. I'll sit tight and wait for one to turn up locally. Thanks for the offer though!

£80 quid of Diesel + hardtop does not= £199, your choice though.

I have got some great bargains from travelling and collecting, met some really nice people too, some from on here :)

its not just the cost of the fuel though, if you factor in your time to go and get something 200 miles away that you may be able to pick up locally for £30 it makes much less sense to take a day out of your weekend, personal choice though as you say.

you would have to go in the landy to make it easier, I was surprised just how big the roof was when it was on the top of my chevy the day I picked one up for my s1. In hindsight it would have been better to go in the landy and stick it on when I got there.

however, in terms of travelling time it would have made a days journey in a car that has a top speed of 30 moh :D c.f. 3 hours.

Mine came with a Hardtop, I paid £40 for some good station wagon sides and swopped them over. Tried to sell the old sides for £10 and then gave em away. If you get a top silicone all the joints inside and out plus the gutters and strengthening ribs, they leak !

If your tilt doesn't have holes in it you could just give it a good dose of Fabsil. I've had a very old tilt and a new one my missus got for my birthday and neither has leaked other than the odd drip through the most horrendous rain, wind, hail snow, whatever. I used to drive a tin-top years ago and spent ages plugging leaks and it still ****ed water down my neck every time I started off on a cold day from all the condensation/ice on the inside. I'd stick to a tilt!

After all the discussion about distance and cash etc I've ended up getting a top and sides for £10, a rear door for £1 and a full dash and complete new bulkhead for £125. I'm collecting them all in a round trip of 250 miles and am quite pleased with myself (however I may still Fabsil my tilt!!):)
