How fast is you

I'm new to Landy's but I am not happy taking our Disco 2 much over 60, in fact 50 - 55 seems a sensible general speed on an open road.

Really not sure why anyone wants to go quick in a Landy, or indeed would buy one for the school run, or motorway use, totally pointless and there are far better cars for general use out there.

Our gearbox isnt the slickest which also forces slow changes and a whole new approach to driving, probably a safer one if I'm honest............

My TD5 Defender has (allegedly) the 5th gear from a Discovery, and it's also had quite a bit of engine work done to it, larger I/C and a self designed free-flow exhaust. I would say that it would probably do an indicated 100mph, but I'd never go there, especially not on Insa remoulds!

Like most, I follow the general trend of 60 for comfort and economy. I've tuned my Defender with the emphasis for power and pulling, rather than speed.

My husband recently got a speeding fine while driving mine. Didn't believe it possible.

My Freelander can do 113mph according to the manufacturers figures. Never been that fast as it’s illegal on our roads and I choose not to go above the limit. My Freelanders suspension, breaks etc will be rated for that speed too. It can go much faster when I switch on me kers but that’s only for special occasions.

This post is more credible than the OP’s.

Then you're a grade-A moron who shouldn't be allowed on the road. Period.

It's sheer luck and not skill that you didn't have a horrific accident and wipe innocent others out.
What the hell gives you the right to put other peoples lives at risk like that?

The look on your face being sent down for death by dangerous driving would be more 'priceless' than that of those witnessing your 80+mph towing antics.
Assuming you'd of survived, that is.

Seriously teddy.

Dunno what you drive but friend of mine delivers vehicles so has a 110 with twin axled trailer. With a 7 series on total weight travelling has to be 6 tonnes. He was hit head on by a q7 who decided that she was invinble and overtook without looking at aprox 70mph.

How can I put it......well defender....write off
Trailer....write off
7 series.....in two pieces
Q7....obliterated. It took over an hour to cut her out. After insurance is done with her 100k claim and she learns to with the wheel chair am sure she feels clever speeding too.

So if you hit someone in your mobile battering ram, doing 25mph above the permitted towing speed and live through it sure life will be dandy

People like that really boil me blood, see it all the time - woman (yes, it normally is) in expensive SUV-type Audi/Jeep/Merc, automatic, pull out regardless, foot down, no regard for others.

Glad your friend was OK, poor Landy though - no sympathy for her whatsoever.

Crazy thing is

Defender and trailer were less than 4weeks old. Beemer was brand new and q7 under 6 monthes old. Thats one huge claim.

I imagine, like many, she though with such a huge motor she was in a tank

may i add that although we can be pretty stupid we are never stupid with trailers, we have a bit of a fetish for them, we have 5 twin axle toys...
although if you're going to be stupid with a trailer then you picked the right vehicle, protests when you go fast and can tow many many times what a to**ta can

I thought for a moment you were talking about a Disco 4 with stability control. Get real. A ford ka can write off a 110. I have the pic's to upload.

I think the little leafer has forgotten the laws of accidents: anything can happen. Tratters may be strong, but during an accident all sorts of abnormal pressure is applied to the vehicle. Hence the engine going under the driver in the above example.

To think that there must have been a combined speed of over 100 on that stretch and the weight of the vehicles its a testament to the vehicles that anyone survived.

Dave had horrendous whiplash mind.
