One of my braided vacuum hoses has been chaffed/burnt in one spot. How do I repair just that section, without replacing the whole hose? (It's a very long hose, and the damaged bit is in the middle.) :whoosh:

just cut and join it, cut damaged bit out insert small metal pipe to join the two together, two jubilee clips job done

a new one does not cost that much about a 5 mm bore by the time you have found a bit of pipe and brought 2 clips it is just not worth it , i bet your has got a hole where it goes over the gear box

The braided vacuum hose is 4mm i.d., it needs to be smaller than the 5mm fitting in order to stretch onto the 5mm fitting and seal. 5mm tube will just slip on and not hold the vacuum ,
I recently bought a 2 metre length of silicone vacuum hose from Ebay
Silicone Vacuum Vac Hose Pipe Tube 3mm 4mm 5mm 6mm 7mm 8mm 9mm 10mm available | eBay

They also sell the plastic joiners, T pieces etc.
you are right it is 4mm i remeber buying 5 mm and it could easily slid of so 2 days later i brought 4mm thanks for jogging my old memeory i am still on windows 3.1 in my mind

I went to a pet shop, the aquarium section, and bought a little plastic connector (meant for fish tank filter hoses) for R1.20. That's about 9p!! Cut out the damaged piece of hose and replaced with my fish tank connector. (The damaged piece was about 1 or 2 cm and above the vacuum pump).

Interestingly, since repairing the hose, my brakes work properly again and the 2 amigos have left town.
