Hi Everyone

Someone cracked the lens on the n/s rear light cluster on my Freelander 2 recently.

So I have just bought a second hand replacement part which I should receive in the post by the weekend.

Before I get the replacement and start taking things apart I thought I would ask the forum as to how easy is it to replace the whole external lens unit. I see that there are two pozi screws holding it to the panel but presumably there must be more to it than just removing those 2 screws.

Any help on how to make the swap would be a great help

Thanks
Paul

Hi paul replacement should be strait forward ,well it is on a FL1 remove the damaged unit remove the bulb holders one at a time and transfer to the same location on the new unit then check they all work before refixing should be one of the easier jobs on a freelander :D

Manythanks - are there any hidden screws to remove the lens? All I can see are two screws, one above the other, which are on the outside of the lens and covered only when the rear hatch door is open

Cheers

Hi sounds as if the unit is fixed from inside the car as a rule theres a access pannel in the trim for bulb replacement you should be able to see any screws retaining the unit !

Just in case anyone else wants to know how to do this - I did the job today in less than 2 minutes:

1. Open Tailgate
2. Remove two pozi screws holding the light cluster to the rear panel of the car (the screws go through a black plastic section of the rear light lens unit)
3. Pull off the lens unit as it is now only held on by two metal poppers secured on the outer side of the lens - don’t worry you cannot break anything.
4. The unit is now free in your hands
5. Remove the wiring harness connector
6. Throw the old light unit away
7. Plug the wiring harness into the new lens unit
8. The new unit is then replaced following the above steps in reverse order of:
9. Align the metal poppers up with the holes in the rear panel
10. Push the lens unit into place by hand
11. Screw the two pozi screws in through the black plastic of the light surround, into the holies in the rear panel.
12. Close tailgate
13. Job done:)
