Disco 3 (LR3) How difficult is will it be for me to replace EGR valves?

Hello all,

I'm a little on the confused side.

So, long story short but I need to replace either one of both EGR valves. I suspect it is drivers side EGR that has gone but I'm looking to replace both (might as well - nice clean new shiny EGR etc.)

Right, so I have seen a youtube video of a guy explaining which bolts he removed and that it would take him around 20 minutes a side to do. But then looking in the Haynes manual they give a full five spanners for the job.

Anyway, I will receive two new EGR valves tomorrow from ebay and would like to (if I can) get this job done myself. Has anyone else done this before? / How difficult a job is it? If anyone can point me in the right direction of some further resource / instructions that would be great.

I have not done them but did look when fitting blanking plates and to be fair didnt look mega hard, 1/4 socket would be essential kit, you can also see them with suspension in off road height and inner wheel arch heat shields removed
How old is the car? I ask as pre 07 you can just fit the cheap ebay blanks for under a tenner.

Thanks, it's a 54 plate. Only problem with blanking is that I believe you also need the engine re-mapped aand I have concerns it will fail MOT emissions tests. It's okay though - the new valves are being delivered tomorrow and were not 'that' expensive (under £80 for both the left and the right valve) - fitting them though - well, wish me luck!

Only need remap/emulators when fitting blanks to post 07 models as they are Euro4, older ones being Euro3.

I'd blank them and send the EGR valves back. A blanking kit costs less than £20.

There's no mapping needed, it'll pass the MOT just fine, and it'll save a whole lot of grief when the bolts holding the EGR valves to exhaust manifolds snap off.
