How can I get better MPG out of my V8?

Oh ok.Thanks for the reply, But I'm a bit confused here. is it the cam under the rocker covers with the followers your talking about? or is there another one somewhere? I'm asking as I saw a cam for sale for an SD1 v8, for £40.00 (they are differant apparently depending on what v8 you have i.e. defender, disco, and rover SD1 are different)

The one I'm talking about is NOS, and been kept in it's original box in oil, but it hasn't got the followers. Just want to make sure I get the right part. Also was it a big job for you to fit, i.e. do you have to have a reasonable idea of mechanics?

The ones under the rocker covers are the rocker shafts not the camshaft,the cam is in the block. If you take the inlet manifold off you can see the camshaft and check the lobes to see if they're worn

Ok thanks. I was confused as the ones under the rockers are often wrongly refered to as the camshafts.

:lol: yes your right. I admit I have very little mechanical knowledge. To be honest I wouldn't even know if the old one was worn or not by looking at it. But it sounds like the cam thats for sale for £40 is the one you guys are talking about. But I doubt I have the knowledge to fit it. I think I'll get it and keep it for when it's needed as it's NOS and cheap, then get a garage to fit it.

Oh, I tried to click on that link, but it just comes up blank. Then I'm on holiday at the mo, and working off a dongle with a crap signal. I'll click on it again when I get home. Thanks everyone for clarifying things for this numpty. Then I guess we all have to start somewhere. :)
