How about this for protecting your chassis!!

My mates a tarmacer and has decided to use a bitumen type of liquid to protect his chassis....

Its the stuff they put down on the floor around doors ect to stop water coming up...

I just wondered if thats either going to work to rot it within a matter of months lol..

He's got a td5, i wouldnt even tempt that on my 1989 90 lol..

Anyone any ideas? It seems to have dried really well and he's going to shiltz this weekend to seal it some more..

I'm sure undersell is a bitumen type product. So i don't see it doing any harm. Probably a bit messy if you ever have to work on it though.

its gone on quite nice and dried well also. i should imagine it would come off quite easy with a grinder to patch parts up.

i blagged aload of "liquid rubber" through work the other day as a sample. Im going to spray it onto mine

issue is of any trapped moisture causing further corrosion.

Also its flammable just to make you aware. So if you see a eco warrior on fire and try to put out the flames using your tratter, they wont appreciate the burning bitumen raining down on them afterwards.

If the chassis is dry before spraying on, the liquid bitumen would work quite well.

Let's face it, it's almost the same as underseal at a fraction of the cost ... and it should be sprayed on hot to run into all the nooks and crannies!

Find out the cost of the heater gun, gas bottles and bitumen*

I used it on a floor pan of my vw beetle years ago
on the inside !
it did a great job but the smell, was horrible
soldl it not long after

Think ill have a go with it then..

I think if its dry when it goes on and there is no moisture on the chassis then it should help it a bit...

Is good stuff, know sombody that does their rear crossmember with it.
Just make sure ya don't cover over the chassis drain holes or when it does fill up it will sit and rot from the inside out and is how most chassis rust out.
