Hi, the top is hot and the bottom cooler. I had heard about the V6 being hot but my 1.8 is and so far I have not seen similar stories...maybe I just did not search enough. For me though it does not feel right, I have owned some high performance motors in the past and flogged them and never seen (or felt) this heat before.

If the engine hasn't had any air flow (eg high idle revs), the slam panel should be hot. the manifold glows red hot when you rev at stand still.
The mid-engined k-series cars have an engine bay fan as well as rad fan, both controlled by same type NTC sensors, but kick in at different temperatures.
Disconnect the brown sensor when you have started the engine, if the fans come on.............all is normal
LR cocooned the engine with the fibreglass undertray, it's part of the problem, I've modded mine with a simple air scoop and I run the IRD hoses disconnected.............permanently!
