fort razzle wuz gonna bring the axle to the easter shindig?

i wouldnt like to pull anything with my n/a i doubt you get further than 3rd or 30mph. it would be crap... i think

My N/A happily pulled a 2 ton tipper off the motorway with a further 2 tons of stone in the back, 30mph in 4th up a hill easy, and would have gone faster if I had wanted to.

Thass the torque as opposed to horsepower thing again - it'll do 30 up a hill in 4th whether it's got a 4 ton tow or frankie dettori drivin with an empty tank! Dint matter what the load is, 30 up a hill in 4th is good goin!

Aye, yer int wrong Odey. Int the HP's (though they help), it's the way yer put them down.

Correct .... and the Landy has a nice low first gear which multiplies the torque, and it has a good injection pump, that is quite happy to deliver heaps of fuel even at tickover speed.

At tickover speed the landy motor may have three or four times the torque of the little Ford.

And then there's low range .....

That's put a smug smile on my face! Feels good!

Oh yes, the smug smile .... you pull up to the scene in your LandRover ... the police have a stuck truck ...... road blocked .... you offer to tow the truck to the layby half a mile along the road .... the policeman says "Sorry sir, you'll never manage that .... " so you get out your chain, hook it on the front of the truck and the back of the Landy, and you engage low range first gear, take up the slack gently, and drive off towing a fifteen ton truck in first gear low range, a quick but gentle shift to second low, and straight along to the layby. The truck driver says "Thanks pal". He knows. The policeman has no idea what to say.

THAT is what a smug smile is all about.

I've done that CharlesY! On Chirstmas Eve I towed a lorry load of fresh meat, destined for Christmas dinners in various hotels, out of a snow-filled ditch, much to the amazement of all and sundry.

Default Horse power question
Hello,

My 2.5 N/A has about 68HP, but will it have more pulling power than a ford focus with a 1.6 litre petrol engine at about 125HP?

Just curious!
-pos"

The old explanation from the four-stroke V-twin m'cycle world on the difference between torque and horsepower - horsepower is all about how fast you'll hit the front of the oncoming truck, torque is all about how hard you'll hit the front of the oncoming truck.... I generally try to avoid both.
