Hope I haven't broken anything.

Well, I have owned my hippo for a few months now and have never used the hdc. So last night whilst waiting to pick up the better half I went to the multi-storey car park cos it has a nice steep ramp turned it on and let it roll down. Well it worked, happy days, but since then when slowing the car down whilst turning the wheel it makes a noise which I can only describe as playing card pegged to the back wheel of a pushbike! Also when I put the car into reverse it makes a nasty rattling noise..... I have no mechanical know how whatsoever and I am hoping I haven't fooked it. Any advice would be gratefully received.

The HDC is just a pump that pushes fluid through the brake pipes, 'you' can't have really broken anything I don't think. However, it oscillates the braking very rapidly and gives it a good work out. I imagine either a caliper/pad has become stuck/dislodged on the front, or a shoe has jumped off its brackets or broken a rusted pin at the back. If that's the case, you're right to investigate it because some of these have been known to result in (sudden) total brake failure.

Sorry no particular advice but have you tried engaging HDC again and then disengaging to see if it sorts it?

If the noises are coming from the rear brakes, I'd take the drums off and check the brake shoes as, apart from the shoes jumping off brackets or the pins rusting away, the friction material can become detached from the shoe. I know from experience what it's like if loose friction material jams and locks a rear wheel whilst driving:eek:

I have no mechanical know how whatsoever.
Get a manual/rave, take lots of pictures and if you are unsure or don't feel confident working on the brakes you maybe able to find someone on here close to you who would help.

I'm in swanley so not sure how local u are to me, if u are local give me a shout and always happy to help

got a hawkeye as well so can always plug that in for u to see if u have any faults

Thanks guys, the noise was horrible! Not having any mechanical experience I expected the worse....... Turns out to be quite embarrassing lol there is a part of the inner wing on the drivers side that is plastic and has a small lip on it, well the lip had somehow managed to fold in on itself and according to the mechanic who looked at it "was rubbing on the crankshaft pulley". I have absolutely know idea what that means but he cured it within 30 seconds of looking at the car hahaha
Gstuart I am in Five Oak Green nr Tonbridge. And if it's alright with you I might take you up on your offer of your Hawkeye, cos the engine management light comes on for a couple of weeks then turns off again for a few days and I would love to know why.....

Cheers again everyone
