Hoorah ! - she passed her CT

Hi all, just bought a 1998 ES auto Disco in England and took back to France, last week.

Today I'm delighted to say that she (Dixie) passed her Contrôle Technique (MOT) so now we are good to go for 2 years.

Hoorah !!!!!!!!!

The absolute best start for a 'new' Disco.

I'm in the next county up and all we get is 1 yr on the tech inspection!

Do you need a CoC in France Dave? (certificate of conformation)

A disco can go from solid to a pile of rusty shrapnel in two years!!!! Well it can in Britain with our weather anyway. Ha

Hi, yes you do need a Certificat de Conformité Européan to register the car in France.

I must say, having calmed down a bit - it feels pretty cool !!!!!

My plan is to keep this one, so I plan on doing her up step by step.

I want a really good genuine all-purpose vehicle - not an off-road marvel.

I would really like to end up with something like Auf_wiedersen_pets vehicle.

We all need dreams don't we?

Sorry, Dave, I have only the blanks in english from Solihull. Sadly, its a bit far to the Limousin for a bit of laning.

FList = File List, it maybe called an 'Upload Area', it's usually moderated (for obvious reasons)

the french ct does not really take rust into account, bizarre but true our disco had more holes than steel but passed no probs

@dyte; I think it's actually very like the UK MOT - it depends on the individual tester. I have a /good/ friend who is a CT tester, and he's as hard as nails on rust where it really shouldn't be rusty, but just tells me about 'this bit' or 'that bit' if it isn't structural. OTOH, I took an old Espace of ours elsewhere one time and it was practically binned, even though there wasn't anything really wrong with it. Sounds like you have a tester who is, er, 'generous.'

I'm really not sure I could agree with your statement above, that has not been my experience at all. They are fair better equipped than the average MOT in UK.

What they do do though, is to take a common sense attitude towards rust and vehicles with a proper chassis.

if its not sharp or falling off its a pass i asked because the rear mounts ,rear sill mounts and all of the sills on mine were gone and it passed chassis is excellent though so might not have been the same if it was a monocoque

One good thing about the French system is that the tests are done by testing stations with no axe to grind, not by garages looking for repair work.
Also I have found that things that are noted as the equivalent of the UK "advisory" may be checked at the next test, and considered a failure if not rectified. Our Discovery had a note that the chassis number could not be seen. On the next test I was made to clean off the chassis so the number could be read before the Tester would pass it.
