I took the tube that goes into the intercooler there is oil (see photo). I started the car....and no smoke or at least not as much, misfire is still there its when smoke comes out...so turbo seals?
Strange thing I took one of the cover from the engine and I rev the engine oil came out of one of the screws holes!!!!! (Photo red circle)
Is this the cause for the smoke???
Hi, mine leaks oil from that bolt hole as well, I have to put a small amount of sealer on the bolt thread & then it's fine (over time it will still leak oil if you don't put sealer on it but not much). As Nodge says re-fit the original oil breather system, they are worth the service intervals over the 'modified' ones. You will have to remove & flush the intercooler & the hoses & clean the metal pipe that goes round the back of the engine (intercooler hose to turbo) & see if that cures the smoke.

I already bought the filter so I will put it back.
A mechanic also told me that this smoke is caused by dirty injectors. So he told me to put clean fuel (shell is possible) and go for a drive of 30 miles or so....
The fact is it started so suddenly even the last time I was up down the road every time I was more than 2000 rpm I would smoke and if I stop on idle it would to.
So I will clean the intercooler and fit the filter and see how it goes maybe some Liqui Moly Diesel Purge will help too?

Looks like the problem with the misfire and smoke are injectors 1 and 3

So its starts with no warning and no one knows what cause this??
I believe it can be injectors because the car was stop for a wile and with low fuel. it might clogged the injector.
I don't understand is why smoke....I can understand if misfires because its clogged. But the smoke???!!!
The truth is its smells like burned diesel like crazy. and in 30 min I had a bit less of quarter tank and now is on reserve (no light on yet)
I don't believe this are valve seals or piston rings unless some got stuck.
I didn't do nothing to the car besides, change the breather of the oil separator and blank egr. Oil change and filters
I don't see any of this making the car behave like this....I will put the egr and breather filter again and see where it takes me
I will drop new fuel and injector cleaner and run it to see what happens.
So far the only thing I have is that reading and several opinions from mechanics and people that had many Freelander's

If this happens to many. I guess anew approach is needed. Like...does it happen with cars with bypass egr? or with Oil separator?
I cant believe its a oil change that causes this. Or change of fuel, oil or cabin filter.
Because before this the car didn't smoke at all or at any rpm....
There is got to be a common thing that makes this happen

The smoke is normally slightly blue in colour, which points to oil being drawn in through the intake, from the breather system.

SO should we blame the breather filter or the oil separator from BMW?

The cyclone is worse, but the fluffy filter lets oil through too, as mine also did the 2k misfire with blue smoke. It only did it on very light throttle, and when holding the revs at 2k off load. When driving under boost, it doesn't do it, which is why it's not a problem.

If it does this .....its a problem.
Maybe is just me, but i need to find the solution. I can just accept the in time my car starts to smoke and no one finds why.

I've used the bmw cyclone filter for about 5 years now and never had a problem with it....could the smoke be from turbo?? Leaking seals? If you pull off all ya turbo pipes just see how much residue is in there....mine has quite a bit but does not smoke like that. Also check you,'ve not done something silly while blanking the EGR or fitting the bmw cyclone thingy.

Hello
So today was work day.
I started the car let it run for 5 min then rev it to 2000 …smoke I guess not as much. But yesterday it was running with new 15 liters of diesel with redex injector cleaner. In some of the times I rev the engine there was no smoke or almost none
For a start I removed the pipe that goes in the intercooler and start the car...there isn't spit of oil so I guess its not turbo seals.
Then I start it to take things apart I took the injectors out and they are spot clean like the hole they go. So injector leak..... hmmmm (photos its the number 1 injector that the scan detected a problem the number 3 is also very clean. The only thing I notice was the lower part of the breather cover the seal might not have been seal it very well all the rest around was bone dry (Foto) there was oil where the injectors are but I don't think its reason for the smoke and it was very dirty since I bought it
I have order new glow plugs and the cooper washers. Then I will assemble everything back. I will use the breather filter and I will install the egr back again.
And we shall see.......This is driving me crazy

Sorry the photos from the breather filter were missing.
Another thing I just did was to test them with a multimeter.
I se to ohms 200
And all of them gave me between 00.8 and 00.9
Shouldn't I get values between 160. and 180. ? ???
Shouldn't this give a check engine light if the injectors were KAPUT?

HELLO TO ALL
Ok yesterday I have replaced the injectors (used ones from a braking LR)
Out back the EGR and the Breeder filter.
Start the car smokeeee. went to a drive up the road full of smoke. came back and let it run for a wile.
I start it to notice the strange burn smell was gone. Went up the road again ...
NO SMOKE AT ALL. Pulls like a train. Came back to the drive way. 2000 rpm no smoke.
Went to another drive....no smoke.
This morning I start the car some blue smoke on start (for 1 sec ,it might be the glow plugs. I bought new ones but mines are stuck , not even for 3 days putting WD40, I leave it to the mechanic he is more brave) then ...no smoke, 2000 rpm nothing. Went for a drive and NOTHING
HAPPY DAYS.
The one thing ...strange is some times hill descend and TC lights light up but there is not codes. You turn it off and on and then not lights......

IM VERY HAPPYYYY
