Hi all,

I recently finished building a centre cubby box for my Ninety. It seemed a lot cheaper than buying one om the UK and getting it shipped, and the cost of buying one in New Zealand is a bit ridiculous. So...I thought I would post some pictures of the build (Not as exciting as the Defender rebuild going on I know).

First off, I looked up some dimensions online to get an idea of the size. Then I measured up inside the vehicle to determine the exact measurements. My Dad then drew up some designs in a computer programme called Archicad (used for designing buildings).

You may notice that the bottom of the box is angled. We decided to do this to match the angle on the seat box so that the top would be flat. I've looked at other centre boxes and the top seems to be on an angle, so they must not be designed to be flat.

We decided to construct the box out of plywood.

Drawing up the designs on the wood:

Here you can see a side section of the box which has been cut out and is then being sanded.

I decided that I wanted drink holders in the front - for a bit of luxury you know.

Next came the covering of the box with black vinyl. First I made some cardboard templates, then we began to cover it.

Finishing the covering of the box, and then made a cushion for the lid by wrapping foam in vinyl.

You can also see the frie extinguisher bracket bolted on to the back of the box, and the blocks of foam inside the drink holders which I used to stop drinks rattling and hold them a bit more steady. I will try and post some photos of the box in place in the vehicle when I get the chance.

Cheers.

I choose to ignore those comments. I come on this forum from time to time out of interest in Land Rovers. I couldn't care less about "post counts" etc.

looks good. Im inspired now to make one for mine. Thanks for the thread

Thank you sir!

I encourage you to take on the project, it was quite good fun.

My last step will be to add some black trim around the edges to tidy it up a bit, and then some carpet in the bottom of the box.
