dont old discos have diff locks or defenders if so i would be tempted to find one in a scrappy with a lock on it and try and modify the locker to fit my vehicle or the other diffs youve got could be a learning curve at the least or maybee a success
my motto in the shed is dont look at what something is look at what it could be !!!

heres and example of my way of thinking i actually snapped me rev cable on me series 3 bout 10 years ago and used a universal rear brake cable off a mountain bike with an adjustable nipple for a replacement wich only cost me a fiver and didnt only get me home it worked perfectly ever since

called initiative. have used the choke cable to get me home before now....

i once came home with the end of the accelerater cable poking through a hole in the dash with a pair of molegripes locked on the end as a hand throttle

I carry push bike brake and gear cables on my breakdown truck for just such a purpose. I also carry motorbike solderless nipples too.

crimped nipples/ends. If you've ever ridden a bike with the rear brake cable fraying your leg knows about it and the ends stops the bowden cables fraying. the nipples can be crimped on and used where you want it to control somthing

theres another type with a small bolt through it so it works kind of like a domino block connector on the end of the cable i used to spend a fiver a throw on the stainless ones but now i have a lathe i can custom make them within 5 minutes for nothing

That sounds more like what I had in mind... The nice RAC guy made me a new throttle cable with one a few years back (pre landy) and it stayed on for ~6 months till I fitted the new cable that was sat in the boot from the day after the original broke!

The 'replacement' now resides in my bits box - just in case!

I know I know digging up old threads again, but did anyone ever come up with a solution. Saw on YouTube some aussy filling diff with moulten lead as a semi perminant lock. If ever wanted to could melt it again to remove. I only started looking into a locker as have a spare diff that needs new input bearing

I designed a diff lock that uses the original car Diff case and two additional planetary gears, locked and unlocked with an electric solenoid.
I changed the design several times until I got to this. It is reliable and workable. But because I was busy with other options for my car, I didn't run it myself yet.
