There's a small hole right at the top of my transfer box. Top, centre front as pictured.

I think it's probably always been there but previously filled/sealed.

Seems bizarre. Anyone got any ideas where it's come from? Could it be a poor casting? I'm losing quite a bit of oil through it. The oil pools on top of the transfer box then runs offs making a hell of a mess.

I'm just going to fill it with something like jb weld. A temp fix will be some blutack :)
 
Brake cleaner and a toothbrush will get that nice and clean.
If its a 1.4 ration unit they are cheap enough as everyone wants the 1.4 one.

Edit ration = ratio!
1.4 =1.2!

should have a small core plug in it,corroded away looking at that casing
 
How clean can you get the surrounding casing without doing any further damage?
It will need tgo be free of all contamination, and then I will look for my tubes of cold cast aluminium repair putty.
With a bit of ally cut to slightly larger than the hole, it should be fairly easy to make a repair block around it.
 
The main problem seems to me to be trying to stop debris going down the hole when you clean the surrounding area. If you can avoid this, then there are various options. I'd be tempted to stick a patch on with Araldite or similar.
 
It'seems actually pretty clean. It may not look it in the area but it is. I gave it a good clean with brake cleaner and stuck some plumbers mate on it which seems to be holding well as a temp fix.

I'd just give it a good clean and then finger a little bit of epoxy putty or similar into it not going to far to push it into the case.

I would also be tempted to look for the bit though. Big rectangular plate off the bottom and it will hopefully be in there.
 
Found what is hopefully the main source of the leak, which is my reversing switch has gone missing! Mines never been connected as I don't have reverse lights. Must have gone astray whilst I had the box off.

Does anyone know what thread pitch it is? M10 is correct size but the thread is different.
