Was doing a run from Plymouth to Grantham on Saturday, after 20 miles the power dropped off and management light came on. Went into limp home mode, but got reasonable revs and power if the engine was switched off and on again so continued and finished the journey. So long as I didn't demand too much power it was ok and did 55-65mph most of the way. Occasionally it went back into limp mode, but regained power if the off-on was done with the engine. On arrival and inspection, the hose from the turbo to the cooling rad has worn through due to rubbing from the shaft from the steering wheel to the steering box - badly fitted hose!!! Easy fix next weekend when I have the time, so dropped it off at home in kent today and went back to Plymouth in a car borrowed from my daughter. Hey ho, the delights of defender ownership!

Sounds about right,

While back someone had a hose rub on the fan when the engine got hot,

Heard of retainer clips being missed on production,

Only seems to be happening of those post 2011

Got the day off work today so took the holed hose off and took it to the local main dealer to get a replacement. Turns out that the design has been changed and the short elbow I need is no longer available (it has different diameters at each end so a bit of an odd one). Anyhoo it turns out that the problem is an outstanding recall (thanks for letting me know Landrover). So with a temporary fix over the hole, the landy has been driven to the dealers and they are putting a completely new hose arrangement in. Result.

That problem is sorted, they called me friday afternoon to say they've fixed it - but found another problem. The oil cooler is faulty, and has leaked oil into the engine cooling system - engine oil got into the coolant header tank. They haven't got the parts to fix it so I can't have it back yet. But every cloud has a silver lining, I was planning to change the coolant this weekend. And they'll need to give it an oil & filter change. Good job it's still under warranty. Checking out other landy forums & askjeeves, seems these issues have been around a while. Not safety related so no safety recalls but seem to be getting sorted during routine visits to the dealers, owners might not even be aware that the work is done when they take their vehicle in for a service.

I can confirm that there was a call out,

However the call back is voluntary as not all were affected, but it is covered by warranty,

The problem is that it seems it appears to be the angle of the retaining clip on some but not most, most dealers will change it though, at least where I work does !
