Hi Everyone,

Just to introduce myself originally from the Isle of Man. Although new to the forum I’m not new to Landrovers as I spent 12 years with a 1959 2A in Nicaragua, know im living in Spain and looking at a project Land-rover and some advice. I have been looking at an interesting 1983 super 88 Land Rover Santana. 2.25 diesel
Love your ideas on this Landy as it all familiar but also different. If that makes sense !!!

Let me try and post a few pics if I can and you can give me your opinions please .

I know it’s a first for me I’m still trying to find out what is going on.

Welcome you sound like a man after my own heart (see my location)
The 3 wipers are normal on Santanas. There are many differences .
For instance you might have 2 switchable fuel tanks.
The instruments and wiring are very different and arguably better.
If you are lucky it is the late engine with timing pinions, this is s very reliable 5 main bearing model.
The door hinges are $#@&, so are the roof joints. But you might have wind up windows .
I wrote various articles about Santanas so if you need information I am here. Complete documentation is on my hard disk and as you are fluent in Spanish that is no problem

well your in good hands. Take plenty pics. And when you have a problem post in the “defender” section and the good gurus will help. Most things have been covered, at least once:)

I’m waiting to pull the trigger I went this morning its been sat for a few years. I put a battery and some new heater plugs and she fired up straight away. Had a cheeky barter with the owner and settled on the price of 1200 euros.
Chasis is good everything looks straight the km are crazy low about 25000 but it’s been on a local farm, So I’m sure it probably not working ha ha.

I just wanted to do a bit of research on the vehicle does anyone have much knowledge of the Land Rover Santanas ?

Yep don’t worry lots of pics I’m sure I will need a lot of advice !!!

Please figure out which engine you have. Also send a pic of the dash.
This is a lot of stuff I have, about 500MB all from
'el puerto palabra del ministerio de defensa' amongst others.
Nothing English. Pero eso no será ningún problema ya conoces perfectamente el español mecánico Nica.

Hey Marjon just noticed you said to post in the defender section ! Is that right or would it be considered a series 3 ?

Sorry if that’s a stupid question

You are right it has little in common with a defender it is a series 3

More series 3 tratter than defender tratter eye would say. When LR launched the 90 and 110 models they moved to springs and other updates. They fell out with santana around this time. Santana continued to build vehicles simular to the series santana design. They didn't get the "improvements" when LR split and moved on. If yer search for santana on ere we have a growing number of santana owners.

Welcome Aboard from me too :)

Interesting project too.... I passed me driving test in a IIA, so have something of a soft spot for a series LR / Santana - local tractor dealer used to sell em - looked a decent tool :)
