Freelander 1 Hippo ABS = does it include TC

Daft question I know, but are all of a hippo's ABS / Traction Control / HDC functions handledby the computer onboard the ABS modulator? And how interdependent is that system on others? Does it work on it's own if you give it ABS sensor signals and ignition power, or does it need secret handshakes with nefarious overlords like the CCU?

One for @pscan.eu please. He has pretty much got the functionality of the ecus.

The ABS sensors return road speed to the ABS module, but the CAN also provides throttle position. I don't know how the ABS would work out the HDC speed without the input from the throttle, but it might just default to minimum target speed. It might also put the warning lights on the dash. Definitely worth trying to see what happens.

sorry I didn't notice this before.
There are three different ABS systems on the hippo.
The early models had a Wabco ECU and it is separate from the modulator. It's clear from the diagnostic data that it talks at least to the engine ECU to get things like throttle position.
The later ones had a Teves ECU. I think (though not 100% sure) that the ECU on these is on the modulator. From the diagnostic data it appears that that it communicates via CANbus to both the engine ECU and the instrument panel.

I would imagine that if it can't communicate with what it expects to then it's going to give three amigos, but whether it will continue to function properly I can't say.

I'm not an expert on the ABS/TCS and what it does in different scenarios. I just reverse engineered and implemented the diagnostic protocols and once that was working I had no reason to dig deeper. I had access to working vehicles with the Teves ECUs so I didn't even need to look at the modulator or ECU. For the Wabco I had to buy a used ECU and run it on the bench which is why I know it's separate from the modulator.
