High pitched Squeel from engine bay when accelerating in gear (No-not the missus!)

Hi,

As above, I've got an high pitched squeel coming from the engine bay when I accelerate in the 90. It's a 200tdi.

It doesn't happen if I take it out of gear and rev the engine, so I'm thinking clutch? Gearbox? The thing is, it doesn't do it under gentle acceleration, only under load and at high revs...

Any ideas?

I have got a bit of an oil leak, so I'm kind of thinking that oil might be seeping into the clutch area?

I've no idea where the oil leak is coming from at the moment. I've looked all over, but no joy (including steam cleaning the engine)!

how tight is your alternator belt?

Alternator belt by the sounds of it, start her up, lift the bonnet and get someone to rev the engine slightly, if you see any wobble in the belt then give it a tighten via the alternator.

Oil can get into the clutch housing if your rear crankshaft seal is on its way out. Oil will appear from the bell housing drain plug if this is the case. However i cant see that making your squeeking noise!

Will go out in a sec and check the belt then.

Steve-o does this also apply to the 200tdi as I noticed that's to do with the 300?

Not many people actually update their threads when they find the solution, which never helps when people with the same problem, do a search, resurrect an old thread and have to ask the original poster, who more often than not is no longer a member.

So anyway, the problem was the manifold. The flange where it joins the turbo (4 bolts) had a sheared bolt and was leaking under load, thus making a "whistling noise".

A new manifold sorted it!

Hi mate my 300tdi is making the whining noise on heavy load or high rev too. Recently I have renewed the Manifold gasket and pulled the turbo slight off without taking off the exhaust, maybe it might have disturbed its seal. Do you have any pictures about that flang you are talking about?
