Hi Everyone

I have just joined the forum and I am relatively new to Range Rover, I have just bought a 1996 P38 4.0 se as a second car, with the intention of doing some green laning

I live in Wigan

I have joined GLASS recently I just wondered is anyone else from the Wigan Area? or any local groups. I have done loads or reading on the net and got memory maps etc, but it see,s to be a minefield of where you can and can't go, plus i have also read its better not to go on your own.

I have done nothing to the car yet, still on road tyres, but would it be ok as it is do some of the lanes? want to see how i take to it before I start spending money.

So any advice on what i need for the car, where to go, would be very helpful.

I plan on doing it sensibly and not "tear arsing" around the country side.

By the way, I am not simply posting on here just for someone to tell me where lanes are, half the attraction for me is exploring and finding them, but i just wanted to know if there was anyone , or any local groups as I don't want to go out on my own on my first trip.

Road tyres will be fine for some lanes which maybe almost metalled roads in some cases. Look to get some AT tyres (or something more muddy if you're likely to be getting adventurous) in due course though. Check the lanes out first on foot and go out with someone local. Don't lane on your own unless you're pretty sure you can get yourself out of trouble.

Ensure you have good recovery points front and back and invest in a "proper" certified tow strap or rope - not a cheapy Halfrauds jobby which almost certainly will do little to help if you did get stuck.

Buy some local maps, check out http://www.trailwise.org.uk (your GLASS membership gives you access) and get out there exploring!

See if there are any local clubs as well, always useful for local knowledge.

Hi thanks for your reply, i don't really want to go alone, hence the post. I am still awaiting my code from glass to join trail wise, although, glass sent me a really useful handbook which has taught me to read os maps properly. the last week I have spent looking at maps and not really understanding them, but as i said the book has cleared it all up

hopefully i can find someone local to go out with,

If you put your location on then someone near you can help you out and go laning with you.

Even though I am only a recently joined member, I have been reading this forum for a number of weeks researching, and I have realised how important a thick skin is, in fact I reckon armour plating wouldn't go a miss!
