Take it home son or to the nearest scrappy, it's for the best..........
oh & welcome (if you decide to visit again that is)

Hes not been back then?

Just so you know i am a she not a he and i have got a suzuki so my 14 year old lad can drive it as well and its not that big for him.

Why.... he lost his brother i lost my son in a car crash 3 years ago and i just wanted him to have a go at driving and see it can be fun and notting to be scread of............

Righty ho.....
Well we're not a complete load of **** taking arseholes........
we've all got far to many screws loose to be 'complete' anythings.......
However, not being completely mad, and having a lucid moment in which I am merely stupid..........
You came on a Landy forum and told us you'd just bought an over sized quad-bike.... so, come on gel, you gotta 'spect some ribbin!
Anyway, the little SJ is not a 'bad' little tool, and if you aint going to have a landy, then it is one off-roader that is almost as well supported, I believe.
First off, my initial reaction to the idea that getting your lad driving as a way to over come a car phobia was probably a good idea, but all dependent on how you approach it.
I suffer a host of anxiety related difficulties, and I have to say its a bag of ****, that you can over come your phobias simply by 'facing your fears'....
You NEVER 'over come' them, you simply over-ride the 'instinct' with 'logic', and as such, it can be a very dangerouse thing to do.
I had a freind who was terrified of heights, and went rock-climbing to 'face his fear'.... admitted he never truly over came it, and each climb was a new challenge to prove to himself he could control it..... and got so good at controlling his fear he got to the point where he was free-climing and taking rediculouse risks.....
Fear is a natural survival instinct, and we need it, and need to respect it, and not 'over-ride' it, but get the reaction in proportion to the stimulus.
so the first quiestion, does your lad actually WANT to have a go at driving?
If not, dont 'push' him..... he has to approach his fear in his own way.
So, moving on, if you had a Landy, I'd suggest you join an ARC affiliated club, as they organise all manner of events for off-road driving, and inparticular, TYRO events, 'Try Your Rover Off-road', which are entirely non-damaging and intended for street standard vehicles..... AND under MSA regulations, a 14 year old with a club membership can take part in them, as a driver, and most clubs will often put an experienced driver in the passenger seat to give some tuition.
Which is the next question; have you any off-road experience to teach your lad?
If not, then joining a club to teach YOU first would be a good start, and you could let your lad 'join in' and learn with you.
After TYRO, there are other events clubs run, some of which 'junior' drivers can be elligible for, and again, with experts on hand to offer help and advice, all at sanctioined and controlled venues, with appropriate levels of support and assistance, such as qualified first aiders etc.
I dont know what the SJ clubs offer, but my starting point is to point you at the All Wheel Drive Club, who are the equivilent of teh ARC (assiciation Rover Clubs) for Non-Rover vehicles.... MSA accreddited, they organise a lot of events in thier own right, as well as 'affiliates' for other marque specific clubs, or regional clubs of any-marque.
Think you need to find a club that is 'affiliated' and 'accreddited' to the MSA, in thier own right ot through the AWD club to have some surity about event site status etc, there are a lot of unnafiliated clubs running events that aren't MSA sanctioned, on private land or P&P sites, and that is probably NOT the helpful, you want to give yourself and your lad ALL the assurance you can.
So I cant give specific advice, either for your district or marque, but point you in the right direction, which has to be the AWD Club.
You cant teach your lad to drive on 'Green-Lanes' as they are technically public roads, so he needs a driving licence, which he cant have at 14.
P&P sites SOMETIMES allow unqualified and/or under age drivers, but going it alone, I dont think is a great way to go, and you get a lot of people doing daft things at P&P's pushing the envelope a bit, and a tipped over landy isn't going to do your kids confidence much good.
Better would be a freindly farmer, particularly this time of year, as the crops are cut, if you can drive around a nice flat feild.......
Just doing teh basics, clutch, gears, steering, brakes etc, driving around in circles and figures of eights etc.....
I mean, Doesn't sound like you want to get the lad driving up mountains or traversing gullies here......
But if you cant find one, then a TYRO type event through a club, Clerke of Course, explained what you are doing, will probably be able to find you a quiet corner of the site somewhere to do the same thing, and maybe 'have a go' at the TYRO after......
Any help?
So, can I take the mickey out the SJ now?
Mind you, you've denied me all the quips about it being a 'girlie' off-roader, or 'kiddie 4x4'! Dang-you! :)
