Hi there, 1999 Petrol Freelander inherited

I've just inherited a 1999 Petrol Freelander - white gold - its looking good after a bit of a wash but there are a few problems - a small rust patch (and hole) under the LH passenger window just below where the small split frame meets the door :-(
There is bubbling in the same spot on the RH side :-I - is this common - is it something to do with the seals being worn ? Other problems are the rear door - another rut patch and hole in the right hand corner needs attention - this door is very stiff and heavy to open. and finally the sunroof doesnt open (I think its been bolted but its leaking water when it rains and a puddle formed in the passenger footwell, which is not yet dry (havent looked under the carpet yet :-0
Breaks need doing before I start driving it but wanted to do the cosmetics myself.
Good points it looks fab and drives well, beautiful full leather interior, I would almost say its regal.

Rust under the boot door handle is common, not so much the front doors, but it's a 17 year old car so you can forgive the odd rust spot. Loads of advice here so you should be able to find answers to most questions.

Welcome, hope you get good service from the Freelander. Mine's also a Gold '99 - but I'd say it has more of a "dirty" tinge than "white"

We can talk about most Freelander issues in the public forums, however, please keep discussions about rust to the private encrypted secure Freelander section - our main ammunition in bashing other Landies is cos they rust bad, so talk of Freelanders having rust has to be kept very hush-hush an in-house!

You obviously need brakes working well, so if you are not confident in working on them it can be best putting it in a garage, but they are quite easy to work on. As Ali says there are lost of answers/info on the forum - but also we also like discussing others problems (its better than having them yourself!) so post if you'd like any advice!
