And be sure to take the fill plug out first. It can be a right royal *%$%£££ to get off and you don't want to be left with no oil in the IRD and no way to fill it.If you change the oil in the IRD, you'll get an idea of the IRDs condition. Black or brown oil is good. Silvery grey oil suggest bearing damage. You need 1 litre of 75w90 semi of full synthetic gear oil for the IRD. It's also best to get a single hex socket for the fill and drain plugs, as they are made of cheese. Crack the fill before the drain plug, or you could end up with a stuck filler and an empty IRD.
