Hi, New to landrover

Hi all, not got one yet but have cash waiting to buy one, short story is i've always wanted one, saved up and now have enough to get one.

But im lost, i dont know what the hell im looking for or anything.

my budget is £6k can push to £8k but rather not, i'd like a Defender with 4+ seats preferably or i would set about converting a hard top / van, its not going to be in mint condition for that money but id like to do some bits myself in anycase.

i dont mind either a 110 or 90 but has to have the TD5 engine

i just dont know where to start and need some advice, i see on ebay converted 90's at £5k 2000 year and 100k or so miles in pretty good condition, i also see unmolested 90s as old as 1994 going for £7k so i dont understand the price ladder for defenders, (any help here is appreciated)

Chassis and bulkhead condition is key.
Year is less important than condition.
Remember that when you go to inspect and you won't go far wrong.

Chassis landrover values are all about condition. Year is almost irrelevant.
30 year old, sound chassis and bulkhead beats a rotten ten year old one every time.

to make my life easier, do you know the difference between 200TDI & 300TDI and TD5?

200 Tdi are direct injection 4 cylinder units, introduced for Discos and Defenders from about 1990. A few years later, 300 Tdi came in, they were the same thing. with a number of modifications to cope with increasing emissions regs and suchlike. They are similar in use.

Td5 came later, maybe about 99 on, they are a 5 cylinder engine, as the name suggests. Completely different injection system, more power and different driving characteristics.
