Hi all,

Introducing myself to the forum as I am the new owner of a Landrover Disco II. I've always wanted a Landrover and just before Christmas I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and get a Discovery before they start going up in price too much!

And it's REALLY broken. It was bought from Warminster near Salisbury and we limped it home to Falmouth, Cornwall in 20 minute hops between service stations before all the water got pushed out each time. It looks like I've bought a parts car as pretty much everything is broken. BUT it's repair o'clock and I'm keen for learning. To begin with I'll need to get it roadworthy then I can consider mods!

So I have a big repair project to begin! Look forward to talking with you all and adding to the forum where I can. First Job is learning about how to do a head gasket!

Heya Neilly! Thanks for saying hi. I haven't heard of an EKA code before but it sounds like that might be really important! How does this relate to replacement keys? I have only the one key for it at the moment so that's on the important but not essential list.

After a bit of a google it looks like this information should be in the original handbook?

Honestly? only £900 as the chassis looked okay but it had a water leak, the insides are a bit 'orrible, brakes are not working properly, two slow leaks on the rear tyres, cracked windscreen. (actually I'll make the list in a minute!)

£900 is hobby money and you’ll treble that fixing her up but it’s an education worth the investment

Sounds like a real project! I bought a 1989 Defender 110 back in August and have been tinkering away on it over the last few months....it’s been great fun!
 
The good news is, you will probably find it has the CDL spigot fitted to the box, even if it does not have the in cab lever linkage fitted.

Thanks! The Landy community is incredible and people seem really happy to and ready to help!

I want to get it going and working on a daily basis soon (end of Jan?)

Sounds like you got it there.
A final piece of advice, see if you can find a friend who has access to a diagnostics unit that works on the D2, can save you a world of hurt.

Would a standard Snapon Diagnostic set do the job? I am extremely lucky to have access to 'Lizard Retro Classics' Workshop when they are closed. That being said I don't want to overstay my welcome too much and leave a dead Landy there for too long. Ideally I'd like to get the car working weel enough to make it my daily in a month or so (this is a lofty goal but do-able I think).

It definitely sounds like you’ve bought a project! I take it you bought privately though.

There’s lots of info online for disco 2’s. A Nanocom is a worthwhile investment as well. Once any welding has been done on the chassis, get it treated yearly with dinitrol or similar.

There are lots of parts available on eBay if you’re looking to upgrade. It would be well worth joining the d2 boys club as well.

Welcome to LZ buddy, bit unlucky with head gasket going although its common on the early
Td5s for the plastic dowls to go in the head to block,
(use the search bar top right as there are previous threads) or just google them.
Replace them with steel ones when you do the gasket.
I do like the colour of yer disco.
