HI,

I've had my current Freelander TD4, for a year now, I rescued it from being scrapped by someone i work with, and been trying to do it up ever since, even passed it's mot in the summer. with only 1 advisory :D.
Some of the stuff Ive done are a Ronbox 2, egr bypass, Hi-flow filters, and pretty much every window motor except the sunroof, as well as the mot prep and basic service stuff

.

I have a bit of time off over Christmas and thought that i would treat it to a new set of glowplugs and a relay for good measure, as i cant find any evidence of them ever being changed..... and found a relay socket empty with evidence of a casing that used to cover it being broken off, just out of the engine side of my L shaped fuse box, and that's what has brought me here, as all web searches seem to lead me back to this site, so was hoping for some advice as to what it could be.

Hi, and welcome aboard....:)

Someone who knows about FL's will probably be along shortly... but that's not me.:D

It might be worth posting the question in the FL section if no one helpful appears ;)

PS - Try and get yourself a copy of RAVE
There is an electrical section that lists photos of all the plugs and wiring associated with it and of course a description of what its for

Thanks, Ive just downloaded the rave, and i think that it is one of the PTC relays, but its all very complicated for my little brain so i'll have to read a bit more into it.. and then get landrover to find me the relay and its cover for Christmas :D

 Main dealer, and a couple of independent Landrover specialist garages in my area have denied all knowledge, its not on the parts list and couldn't possibly have that function, even though it has a chapter in the Rave manual with it clearly pictured

Welcome and well done for saving another from the big scrap yard in the sky, gaylander sorry can't help with that one my experience is limited to helping my mate rebuild his 1.8 petrol and another mates td4 jatco gearbox solinoids......:p

simply the ptc heater is a small radiator that sits inside the car, it helps heat it up quicker

it's in place of a fuel burn heater

the ptc is like an electric radiator

jobs to keep in mind for later on is

egr blank

clean out ur maf sensor

check ur vacuum pipes , by the egr as they can get a hole burnt through them from the engine

with the ron box try the settings with the maf compensator off and on setting 2

u can also get a switch to out inside ur car so u can alter the settings whilst on the go

depends if u have a bosch or peirburgh sensor

that plug could be for the fuel burner heater ?? , it u have a ptc fitted instead

plse pop over into the freelander section , always plenty of people to help

Thank you all,
I got up early cause I'm slightly sad like that, and also it was -3*C this morning, and went for a drive through the nicely deserted local lanes, and after replacing the relay as well as checking and cleaning the rest of the PTC1 and 2 system, the windscreen was defogged and the cabin was nice and warm by the time i had scraped the side windows, and the engine was up to temp within 2 miles of driving, (before the engine temp gauge would be just about starting to move after about 6 miles (with the cabin air just starting to warm up), and be up to temp by about 10 miles or more! ). What difference, I'm actually having to turn the heater fan down now. :):D:)
