Hi and welcome. Btw you have a 1985 Ninety. Not a Defender. Defenders weren't introduced until 1990.

Its had a 200tdi conversion at some point. So i guesd they are refered to as simply a ninety?

Landrovers were always known by wheelbases, 88, 109, 90. 110. Then model names came in, thats where the rot started, more ways than one!

Yep, tis a 90, like mine, until it breaks down, then it gets called all sorts of wondrous names.......

Hehe well ive heard they have oil leaks and rain gets in.. both of which i have experienced since i got it 2 weeks ago . And a few niggly bits i might need sone advice to get sorted out.. such as no lights on the dials.. erratic wipers. And a cb radio instead of a stereo

No lights on the dials could be the interior / dial light switch in the wrong position, it's by your right knee when you're sat in the driving position. Mine has three switches in a row, hazard switch, rear heated window switch and interior / dial switch

Switch does nothing. Mine has rear fog light, hazards then interior/dashlight switch which does nothing

If it doesn't leak oil out and water in, then there is probably something wrong with it

Have you tried the switch on the rhs of dash, as above?

Yes the switch does nothing in any position. So no dome light or clock lights
