hi all the old gezzedr next door to me has a s reg 1.8 freelander and its losing water.
there is apipe thats clipped to the same bracket as the dipstick. this pipe goes from the top of the diff or gear box ad there no where like a breather pipe, now when he fills the expansion tank it dripps a redy pinky colour witch is oily to the touch. if he revs it hard this stops.
There is no sludge in the oil cap and no over heating, but is a browny black sludge in the expansion tank.
any1 any ideas poor old bloke dosnt no how to use the internet so posting for him, cheers inadvance.

hi thanks for your repliy but i have read and read and read you get the idea but nothing really about as i explained so any more help would be great, i am thinking a good flush for the guy and maybe a new expansion cap to stop any leak off presure, like i say it dosnt drip when reved

There's a leak somewhere, it's not holding pressure by the sound of it so a new cap would be a good place to start, and probably the cheapest option first off.. I'd be tempted to drain, flush refill and fit a new cap then watch it very carefully for a few weeks. Can't be any more specific I'm afraid but I guess the instructions for filling / bleeding etc are here somewhere. Good luck
