The previous owner seems to think it was a bedford . I've recently purchased this as a restoration project. the logbook states it's a 2.2 diesel. any help would be appreciated . thanks

Its a very good engine, but it does look a bit tired, maybe needs a bit TLC.
And you really need an overdrive or a high ratio transfer box to make good use of it on road.
Top speed with standard trans will be 40 max, endless stump pulling power, though.
Check if the vehicle has high range box or overdrive already?
Obviously, if you are looking for a good resto, it has to go. And it depends on how you intend to use the vehicle.

Hydraulically governed fuel pump on that, might mean it is out of a fork truck or similar. Quite nice power delivery for a landrover.
Try and get some engine numbers, I think they are on a flat on the side of the block. Not certain, I will give that some more thought.
Numbers will identify it for certain, and you will need them to get parts.

as above I fitted one in a series 2 a it was a perkins 4203 one bad point they are farly noisy also series 2a gear box best as is stronger than a series 3 a

Not sure. I would say that is a casting number on the block. I would expect the engine number to be stamped into a flat on the engine block.

It's most certainly a 4.203. For clarification purposes, the numbers mean the following:
4 - 4 cylinder
203 - 203 cubic inches (3326cc)
I don't think that yours has been taken out of a forklift trucks. Those usually have different exhaust manifolds though heaven knows what would have been fitted and removed throughout the years.

It may have come out of a Commer van. Or it could be an industrial engine with another sump on it. As I said before, that is a hydraulically governed pump. Some of the applications had mechanical pump, sadly, I cant remember what they were!

Wunt worry too much,it is only the innernet, and you dont get paid to do this!
In any case, as I also said, what he has pictured isnt the engine number, it is a casting number on the block!
