Hi guy, V8 Disco 2 buying advise...

Hi guys, I'm going to look at hopefully my first Landy tomorrow, a Discovery 2003 ES V8! It has been LPG converted and up for £3950. Its got full service history and done 133k miles. There is a slight issue with the LPG where it switches over to gas too quickly before it warms up.

Is that a good price?

What should I check and ask when I got o view it? Any advise will be great. Thanks.

Normally you will have a switch on the dash to switch to lpg. Leave it on petrol until the temp gauge is well on its way to operating temp before you switch over. Can't help with the rest sorry
 
Listen for any ticking sounds from the engine while it's running.
Ask if/when they replaced the thermostat with a soft spring 180 degree/82 Celsius thermostat.
See if/when they replaced the crankshaft position sensor.
Check for leaks while it's running.
Ask if/when all 3 pulleys where changed.
Check for coolant leaks. If there are, could need a head gasket change or the throttle body heater is leaking from the gasket.
Ask if the Option B was done on the ABS module's shuttle valve switches.
Ask if/when the front prop shaft was changed or is it original.

Hi matey. I've bought it and believe he had one pulley fail so just want to know what the other ones are so I can replace them also. Cheers

Every dual-fool I have used had an override so you could say run on petrol.
Once at temp you can switch back to dual running. The car will switch to LPG if it has LPG fuel available.
Sounds like the temperature sensor that provides an "ok to switch to gas" signal is not working right and it is switching over prematurely.
Shouldn't be hard or expensive to fix.
Can't help with your other queries, sorry.

*DON’T GET URO PARTS!*
* Tensioner and Pulley assy: Gates #38245, Dayco #89287
* Tensioner pulley only: 100mm LR #131070 / Gates #36102 (17mm ID x 75mm OD) steel, (Double seal bearing #6203-2RS)
* Small idler pulley: 70mm Dayco #89052 steel (Double seal bearing, 17mm x 40mm x 12mm - #6203-2RS)
* Large idler pulley: 80mm LR #PQR500060 metal (Double seal bearing, 20mm x 52mm x 15mm - #6304-2Rs (NTN bearing 6304LLU)

Torque:
* 70mm & 80mm idler pulle bolt torque @ 37 Ft/Lbs
* 100mm belt tensioner pulley bolt torque @ 33 Ft/Lbs

Sorted that straight away mate. Yes it was the temp sensor

Having a hard time finding the small 70mm pulley.

Give it time, 12 months max:D

Mind you I have had land rovers for years, proper psis me off at times, but if looked after overall good machines, abuse/ignore them at your wallets peril!
