Hi from darkest Hampshire

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm bigmart (cos I'm big around the belly) & I live in darkest Hampshire.

I've just aquired an old, tatty, 1979 Lightweight series III with a V8 under the hood. Terrifying to drive but loads of fun.

There will be loads of requests for help as I slowly fix up my new charge into something I am proud of. Its a major task so please be gentle with me.

I'm in Norf Ampshire too but I'm not sure the Lightweight is interesting just in need of loads of work.

Where on earth is Donut City. Is it totally populated by Police?

Ah I'm a bit slow but now I get the Donut City reference. As I live quite near Basings-Toke I get the likeness although there are many worse places. Have you been to Bracknell or Swindon?

I'm tryin to sort out the electrics. They seem a little temperamental to say the least. I have got to check out the drive train to make sure the 4wd & FWH are working.

Its a bit like being addicted I just take it one day at a time.

Once I am a little more confident maybe I'll risk an offroad centre or something. I did manage to run out of go juice the other day but ay least I was carrying a can full of spare.

The gearbox is crap & the syncro on 3rd & top dissapears as soon as she's warmed up but its fun learning to double de clutch. She jumps out of 1st on the overrun too but thats all part of her character.

Any advice is wellcome

Yes Ive been havin fun cos the connections & relays are past their best, I have quite a lot in common with this old girl, I seem to have got most things working now. the indicators can be a little awkward but are functioning at the moment. I've got to get the horn working & the speedo has given up the ghost after my last trip behind the Dashboard. It don't really matter cos it never read anything sensible anyhow.

My Daughter says a motor of this character deserves a name so we have settled on Lou Lou the Lightweight Landy!

sounds like you could do with having your gearbox rebuilt

I think your right about the gearbox but it'll have to wait for a while cos I've had too many toys lately. I have seen company's offering rebuild kits at reasonable prices. What do you think of the practicality of doing it myself? I am pretty good with mechanics, Happy to rebuild engines & the like but Gearboxes have always been taboo to me.
