Hi guys and gals
Just about to pick up my 1st Landrover at the weekend a 96 3.9 XS Discovery with LPG converstion. Looking forward to having a British 4x4 to replace my unreliable pos Pajero 2.5 TD.

At the weekends of the Motor Racing season you will find me at some racing circuit wearing orange and waving flags. I have always been a fan of Rover cars and every time the Pajero failed I used my now ex wifes Rover 420 turbo diesel to tow my Caravan but as we have now split up i decided an LPG Disco was the way to go.

Anything I should look out for when viewing it before picking it up ?

welcome , main thing on disco is rust, inner wings sills boot floor, with it being a v8 let it get hot and look for presure in top hose.

Thanks learnt the one about pressure in top hose from my Pajero. They are pron to head gasket failures and cracked heads as I found out after buying it, along with other issues.

The Guy I am buying it off bought it as a doner car for the axels but aparrently it is two good to break. He ended up fixing it up and it has just been though an MOT so body rot should not be 2 bad. It has had the original fuel tank replaced with a 70ltr lpg tank and an extra petrol tank fitted in rear quarter. For anybody interested here it is SOLD SOLD SOLD on eBay (end time 23-Feb-10 22:14:20 GMT).

If I am not allowed to post links please let me know and I will edit it.

just because it has an mot does not mean its without fault !!
before i would hand over any cash give it an absolute good poke and prod all over it might well suprise you ........... pick the carpet up in boot floor and drivers and passenger foot wells , im sure ive seen that one on ebay before

I will be doing don't worry, the MOT was worth me putting a 50 quid holding deposit on it until I get down at the weekend to view and hopefully buy.

The guy I am buying it off bought it off ebay as a non runner for the axels for another project, but the body was so solid he did the work to get it running again, and put it though the MOT. if there is small rot it is not a problem as I can weld and have my own MIG and Oxy Accetatlyn welding setup, not boasting but never had a car fail MOT on welding yet. I used to restore classic cars, especially Triumph Herald based cars such as the Vitesse and my favourite was a 1968 2ltr Bond Equipe GT. Have now moved on to playing with bikes as my house that I have moved to does not have a garage, but I have access to one at my Parents to do work in but not to store a project.

that looks ok but you do know red discos dont go up hills.. good luck with your new landy..

Well I plan to paint it Orange to match my Marshaling overalls and call it my Marshalance, even thinking of having some lettering cut in mirror writing like an Ambulance would have :)

Will that mod be enough to go up hills LOL

Sounds rectal,broke back mountain?

pass but can tell you not to get freelander doors wet-they fall off

I am now a proud owner of a 96 V8i XS LPG manual Discovery. No rot on boot floor or wheel arches, no build up of pressure in top hose. Drove it 90 miles back on various types of roads on gas and it did not miss a beat, temp gauge never moved from half way.

The only bad points I have found so far are:
Drivers seat base collapsed but seller kindly provided a cushion.
seam has come apart on passenger seat base where leather joins cloth.
LPG led on dashboard permanently shows empty.
Cruise control does not work, master switch lights up but when you press buttons on steering wheel you here a slight click but nothing else happens, not going to spend money on this just check fuse and vac hoses etc.
Middle seat belt buckles are missing, apparently they were frayed so seller cut them off to make sure they weren't used.
Interior wants a good clean
Rear Speakers are shot, grill is missing and cones are torn, but it has a nice Blaunkpoint CD Multi Changer in it :)
One of the rear top windows blinds has no return action.

So mainly cosmetic faults any advice on the mentioned issues would be appreciated.
the LPG system is a Star Gas with 2xInjector Emulators, each one does 4 cylinders.
