i have been fixing land rovers for the last ten years, mostly my mates series two as he will not buy new parts for any job. still the experience has come in handy! cheers mate.:D
got me a series 3 and building it from the ground up ready for a new chassis in august. this is not helped by new parts not being to spec and not fitting, have put up a rant elsewhere on here so wont bore you.
i am glad for your help/advise and hope i can repay this as time goes on.
i have tried to put an attachment here to show what happens when you have a dodgy radiator cap, no pressure = no coolant to the back of the cylinder head and pop goes your head gasket. £4.99 for a new cap - bugger.:eek:

Yay. Another Series owner onboard. Welcome Pal. Together we series sods will take over the world.

Shame about your rad cap. I had this trouble a few weeks ago. Luckily no damage. I'd just replaced the head gasket too, so got away lightly.

What do you have? Short or long wheeler?

Just rebuilding my Series 1 gearbox at the moment. Well Transfer box now, the LT76 is back in attached to the 2l

Then theres the wifes S3 88 to rebuild starting like you with a new chassis I think
 
Welcome. Hope the rebuild goes well it'll be worth it. Had a similar problem with rad cap last year. It had disintegrated but still held the pressure so replaced without any problems.
 
thanks its good to know i am not the only one with a tool box. still trying to work how the site works never done this before. i spent yesterday in the sunshine! putting one rebuilt swivel housing back on and taking the other off with half shaft so i could spend sunday in the shed - (modifying the brit parts swivel hub oil seal retaining ring and stub axle bend over washers cos the holes don't mach up). - up to my elbows in parafin and oil. so another good day in the land of Mik
