i have just purchased a 1997 range rover 2.5 diesel,it has a running problem it wont rev over 2500 rpm,the top intercooler pipe (the one that runs from radiator to engine) when you rev car it sucks flat im guessing this is limiting the airflow any ideas why it is doing this.
thanks

To suck an intake pipe flat a fair old vacuum is being drawn through your intake system. It would suggest whatever the blockage is it is well and truly in there.
Removal and inspection firstly of the air box and then the intercooler would be a good start.

the rac man who came out to me said he thinks it maybe a knackered turbo do you think this is lightly? thanks

RAC guys are well trained and it may well be the case; he must have seen some signs to come to that conclusion.
There may be a combination of problems with your motor.
Does it smoke excessively?
Did he check for blockages?

hi no he noticed pipe was sucking flat & said he will get it recovered, the only other thing he noticed is that there is air in fuel system which he thinks is a leak some where,it does not smoke bad but is a bit. thanks

Clean the intercooler by filling it with acetone (off the car) block the ends, give it a good shake and leave it to soak for a while, you may have to do it more than once. Make sure it's dry before you replace it.
Replace the airfilter if it's dirty and see if it's any better.
Download RAVE which will give you all the info you need.

hi I had this problem with my P38 diesel it turned out to be the hose to the turbo had gone soft and spongey due to oil, garage changed it with a new harder type and no problems since

the pipes are very soft you can squeeze them together with finger tips
